Publisher's Summary:
Historical fiction is one of the most interesting genres of fiction that you can get into, especially if you are interested in history. Many authors who are working on historical fiction novels put a lot of time and research into the art, and they make sure that everything that they are doing is historically accurate, and many authors are so skilled that they drag you right into the thick of the action, many times without even trying to do so on their own. Guernica is no different.
Dave Boling is known for being an incredibly accurate historical fiction writer, and this book is just one example of how amazing the genre can be. The entire book is set during the period of the Spanish Civil War, so if that interests you, you're going to want to continue reading and learn more about it before diving in for yourself. The book is full of great characters, interesting information, and gut wrenching action that happens right until the actual bombing occurs, which is why so many people are enthralled by the story itself.
As a quick overview, Guernica follows the joined stories of the tenants of Guernica (keeping tabs on one family specifically), the German officer von Richthofen, and Picasso. By doing this story along these lines, we are provided with an extent of points of view on the strike themselves, as well as on the way they were initially arranged and later memorialized. Throughout the novel, you are immersed in the whole life of this little town. There is a lingering threat regarding how much the imminent bombing is looming over their heads, even if they don't know about it.
