A 1979 graduate of Rutgers Law School in Camden, Don was working as a litigation associate for one of the oldest and most venerable law firms in Chicago when, in 1986, he volunteered to serve as a pro bono attorney for the American Bar Association’s Death Penalty Representation Project. Don was assigned to represent Tommy Hamilton, who at the age of 20, shot and killed his boss in Alabama and was sentenced to death. Summary Judgment is a firsthand account of Don’s efforts to save Tommy’s life.
