Hooked is a book for developers and designers who wish to build a product or app that will repeatedly engage its users. Today, more than ever, a product needs to be self-sustaining in its ability to keep its users loyal and active. In the past, companies could rely on advertising to remind users to purchase or interact with their product. Today, however, the most successful companies in the world - Facebook, Google, Apple, to name a few - all thrive on becoming an instinctive part of their target users' lives, triggering them to continue using the product without so much as a reminder.
A habit is an action that is performed with little thought or conscious compulsion. If a person needs to overcome a major hurdle to complete the action, it's unlikely to become an ingrained habit.
Please note: These are key takeaways and analysis of the book, and not the original book.

Great tips for developers!
Working in the tech industry is tough. Everyone's opinion is to just "make an app for that," which proves harder than you realize. "Hooked," is a textbook for developers and designers who wish to build a product or app that will repeatedly engage its users. Today, more than ever, a product needs to be self-sustaining in its ability to keep its users loyal and active. The most successful companies in the world--Facebook, Google, Apple--have become an instinctive part of their users' lives.
Instaread summarizes the message of "Hooked" into 8 key takeaways, or the highlight reel. These main points of Eyal's textbook were fascinating, intriguing, and actionable. As a developer of tech products, its great to hear about ways to increase the usage of our apps. We want return users, and part of that is delivering on your promise and the other part is becoming a habit. The insights and analysis of this summary were sound, and I enjoyed reading it.
Excellent companion to an interesting topic
This is a great summary of Hooked, a textbook for developers and app designers, that shows how important it is to build an app that makes the user want to engage with it on a regular basis and not just as a one-off experience. Building an app is a lot harder than it sounds and the biggest hurdle is trying to figure out a way to make the app as functional, fun and easy to use as possible. This is what makes a truly successful app.
I was given this summary in exchange for my unbiased review and at first I didnât think I would be interested in the topic. But the summary is well written, and made it easy to understand the topic. If you are interested in designing an app, I highly recommend the full title, and I recommend getting this summary as a companion volume.
The most effective way to sell
Firms can no longer rely solely on advertising appeals to sell products.
