Summer In The Psalms #6 - You Don't Get a Vote // Jared Thompson

Listen Later

Drawing from Psalm 37, we explored how David addresses one of our most persistent struggles: envying the apparent prosperity of the wicked while wrestling with our own circumstances. Unlike most psalms that cry out to God, this wisdom psalm offers David's hard-won answers after decades of experience with both righteousness and evil. Our tendency to "fret"—literally to burn with anger—over injustice reveals a deeper spiritual problem: we're making eternal judgments based on temporary snapshots. We see green plants thriving and assume permanent prosperity, missing the fuller spectrum of time where all earthly success eventually withers.David warns that fretting leads only to evil because it causes us to operate as if God doesn't exist. Our anger, anxiety, and envy—even when seemingly justified—corrupt our decision-making and lead us away from trust in God's sovereignty. The solution begins with examining our own "double-mindedness"—the spiritual split personality that vacillates between trusting God and placing confidence in worldly systems. We must first address the misalignment of our own hearts before concerning ourselves with others' wickedness.True freedom comes through "dwelling in the land"—assuming our identity as citizens of God's kingdom where democracy has no place. We don't get a vote on God's laws or timing. Our role is to trust and obey, rolling our burdens onto the only One strong enough to bear them. The ultimate vindication isn't found in earthly justice but in God's long-term plan—evidenced powerfully in how early Christianity conquered Rome not through violence but through a man who committed His will to God and gave His life on a cross.URF WEBSITE: ➤ http://www.urfellowship.comSOCIALS: ➤ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/urfellowship/➤ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/urfellowship
