It’s way older than the law or MosesThen Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine.He was priest of God Most High, 19and he blessed Abram, saying,“Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth.20And blessed be God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand.”Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything. Exodus 14:18-20Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. James 1:172.Tithing in the law became God’s way of supplying for the priests and the ministry.3.Tithing is supported in both the Old and New Testaments.“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone.” Matthew 23:23, Luke 11:424.Jesus and His disciples were supported by the faithful giving of His female followers. (ref. Luke 8:1-3)5.The Apostle Paul commands support of the ministry. (ref. 1Timoth 5:17-18)Why does God want us to give? 1.He wants us to be Christ-like.For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16 KJV2.It’s a reminder of ownership.3.It’s about spiritual warfare.For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. 1Timothy 6:10“I will rebuke the devourer for your sake…” Malachi 3:114.It’s a part of our worship.God loves a cheerful giver. 2Corinthians 9:7Cheerful (Hil-ar- os) = hilariousWhat is God’s Spirit speaking into your life today?
