Father Lazlo Totharini is a composite character, a conflation of Guido Sarducci, a hilarious “Saturday Night Live” character and Lazlo Toth, the equally hilarious pseudo-author of “The Lazlo Letters.” Both are creations of comedian Don Novello, who was famously arrested at the Vatican in 1981 for “impersonating a priest.”
