I love this time of year. Truly, I do. I love the sights, sounds, flavors, and general excitement of November and December.
For starters, I love the changing of the leaves. The brown, orange, yellow, and red leaves covering the trees, is beautiful to me.
Think about it though, when we say, "Those trees look beautiful" what is taking place for the beauty to occur? Death. The leaves are dying.
In the autumn, because of changes in temperature, the leaves stop their food-making process. The chlorophyll breaks down and the green color disappears. The leaves are dying.
Galatians 2:20 - "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself for me." -Paul
*-Matthew 10:37-39 - "Anyone who loves his father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me; and anyone who does not take up his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for My sake will find it."
*-Mark 8:34-38 - "If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me. For whoever wants to save his life (or soul) will lose it, but whoever loses his life for Me and for the Gospel will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? If anyone is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in His Father's glory with the holy angels." -Jesus, addressing a crowd along with His disciples.
*-Luke 14:25-35 - Do we understand the cost of following Jesus?
-John 15:5 - "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing. with John 5:19 - "I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by Himself; He can only do what He sees His Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does." -Jesus John 5:30 - "By Myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and My judgment is just, for I seek not to please Myself but Him Who sent Me." -Jesus
What does it mean to die to self?
This will be our focus.
