God has determined that mankind will not be able to come savingly to God through his own wisdom - but only through that which the world mocks - the crucifixion of Christ. Further, the divisions that occurred in the church at Corinth were in some ways associated with the new believer's inability to distinguish and grasp those things which were in accordance with God's wisdom and reject those things associated with man's wisdom.
