Title: Don’t Waste Your Work
Summary: God created human beings to create, build, and steward. Work reflects our worship… Our worship of God will not stop on Sunday but will continue throughout the week.
Text: Text: Genesis 1:1–28
[Col 3:17 ESV] 17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
[Luk 2:49 NKJV] 49 And He said to them, "Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father's business?"
[Jhn 5:17 ESV] 17 But Jesus answered them, "My Father is working until now, and I am working."
Big Ideas:
There are often 2 types of people when it comes to work, maybe we can add a 3rd type
* Many people either hate their job or simply endure it because they have to.
* Others become workaholics because they find their identity in an occupation or because of a deep-seated obsession with money.
3. Maybe we can think about a new way. A type of person whose work doesn't define them but maybe refine them. A person who brings God’s love and the demonstration of biblical principles to the space. A person that knows…it’s not about what they do but how they do it. They know who they are in Christ so their job description is not the self-description and their net worth is not their self worth
* God says a lot about work. To fully understand the spiritual and theological significance of work, we have to go to the beginning. The book of Genesis describes the moments when God created the heavens and the earth. God reveals himself as a worker/creator and creates men and women to create.
* Remember we have a CALL, CHOICES and CHANCES
Quotes:
if the world hates you because you love Jesus? That’s exoected,, but if they hate Jesus because of you? That’s a problem.
Work becomes worship when you dedicate it to God and perform it with an awareness of his presence.
I hope this sermon blesses you.
