Philippians 2:1-11

Paul roots the call to unity and humility in Christ himself, who gave up his rightful glory, took on the role of a servant, and humbled himself all the way to death on a cross, and because of that, God lifted him up above every name, so that one day every knee will bow and every tongue will confess Jesus Christ is Lord.

Philippians 1:27-30

The apostle Paul calls the church to live in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ - not to merit the gospel, but to display its merit. As citizens of Christ’s kingdom, we are called to know Christ, embrace our heavenly citizenship, and become a blessing to others out of the blessedness we have received in Him.

Philippians 1:1-11

True, unshakable joy is not a personality trait or a product of favorable circumstances; it is the byproduct of an identity rooted in servanthood to Jesus Christ. When we surrender control of our lives to Christ as Master, our circumstances lose their power to steal our joy.

Matthew 6:12

The petition, “Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors,” reminds us that we confess our sins not to be justified anew, but to enjoy afresh the fellowship of our heavenly Father, which our sin has disrupted. Resting in Christ's finished righteousness, we seek the restoration of communion with God, while extending to others the same grace we ourselves have received as the fitting fruit of a heart transformed by the gospel.

Matthew 6:11

The fourth petition, “Give us this day our daily bread,” is not a blank check for our own desires but the practical outworking of the Lord’s Prayer. We ask our heavenly Father to provide our daily needs, not so that we might become more self-sufficient, but so that we might grow in joyful dependence upon His fatherly provision, for the hallowing of His name, the coming of His kingdom, and the glory of Christ.

Matthew 6:10

As citizens of God's kingdom, we are called to seek His reign, submit to His will, and live in joyful obedience so that our lives increasingly reflect the realities of heaven here on earth. Matthew 6:10 reminds us that following Christ is not about building our own kingdom, but surrendering to the loving rule of our heavenly King.

Matthew 6:9b

The first petition of the Lord’s Prayer - “hallowed be your name” - is first not only in order but in priority. Every subsequent request seeks to serve this chief desire: that God’s name would be honored and glorified. If we pursue one aim above all else in prayer, it should be the very aim that Christ prayed first and lived for continually. And as we seek first His kingdom and His glory, we discover that every other concern finds its proper place according to God’s good design.

Matthew 6:9a

The opening address of the Lord’s Prayer reminds us that all true prayer begins with the gospel of grace. In calling God "our Father in heaven," Jesus teaches us both why we can draw near to God with confidence and how we are to come before Him - with the humble reverence and childlike trust of His beloved children.

Psalm 136 calls us to remember that God’s steadfast love never fails through creation, redemption, suffering, and daily life, and that His covenant faithfulness reaches its fullest expression in Jesus Christ.
