Who will separate us from Christ’s love? Will we be separated by trouble, or distress, or harassment, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?
As it is written, We are being put to death all day long for your sake. We are treated like sheep for slaughter.
But in all these things we win a sweeping victory through the one who loved us. I’m convinced that nothing can separate us from God’s love in Christ Jesus our Lord: not death or life, not angels or rulers, not present things or future things, not powers or height or depth, or any other thing that is created.
Romans 8:35-39
Lord’s Prayer Brad Short
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name,
Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done,
On earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our sins,
As we forgive those who have sinned against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil,
For Thine is the Kingdom,
And the power,
And the glory, forever.
Amen.
Scripture Reading Judi Mechem
Once the council members heard Stephen’s words, they were enraged and began to grind their teeth at him.
But Stephen, enabled by the Holy Spirit, stared into heaven and saw God’s majesty and Jesus standing at God’s right side. He exclaimed, “Look! I can see heaven on display and the Human One standing at God’s right side!”
At this, they shrieked and covered their ears. Together, they charged at him, threw him out of the city, and began to stone him. The witnesses placed their coats in the care of a young man named Saul.
As they battered him with stones, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, accept my life!”
Falling to his knees, he shouted, “Lord, don’t hold this sin against them!” Then he died.
Saul was in full agreement with Stephen’s murder.
At that time, the church in Jerusalem began to be subjected to vicious harassment. Everyone except the apostles was scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria. Some pious men buried Stephen and deeply grieved over him. Saul began to wreak havoc against the church. Entering one house after another, he would drag off both men and women and throw them into prison.
Those who had been scattered moved on, preaching the good news along the way.

I Have Felt the Hand of God
by Pamela Martin (words)
and Craig Courtney (music)
I have felt the hand of God in your hand.
Holding me, you gave me strength to stand.
When I was all alone, you came and met my need.
And when I lost my way, your hand was there to lead.
Through your touch, God's hand reached out to me.
I have felt the hand of God in your hand.
I have heard the voice of God in your voice,
Singing praise, you taught me to rejoice.
Your voice of comfort caused my grief to end.
And when my faith was gone, you called me home again.
When you spoke, God's voice called out to me.
I have heard the voice of God in your voice.
I have seen the face of God in your face,
Giving all, you shared with me God's grace.
And you were faithful to guide me as I grew.
I saw your love for God and I saw God in you.
When you smiled, God's love surrounded me,
I have seen the face of God,
I have seen the voice of God,
I have felt the hand of God through you.

Interlude Marilyn Short
How Great Thou Art

Tribute to Moms
Prayer
Lord, make us instruments of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that we may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.
