Even though it's one of our most popular graphic novel series, I had never looked twice at the Sunny series. That was until I read a School Library Journal article about an attempt to ban it.
To my surprise, this book was funny and thoughtful. It depicts a little girl, Sunny, who is sent to spend her Summer with her grandfather because her older brother at home is dealing with substance abuse problems. I found it to be an age-appropriate narrative that would be valuable for young readers.
