southbound freight train crossing the river

for several days the sun's not been seen

i thought this morning would be the same

but the bruises in the sky began

to gather into a sunrise scene

and the feeling of being battered

began to feel like being alive

till the sun blasted through these thick clouds

like a southbound train with singing wheels
