With war approaching, it looks like all the sisters' dreams are about to be snatched away. Yet new doors are about to open, behind which lie dangers but also the possibility of happiness for both.

Entertaining
This is an entertaining, 'tho predictable work of fiction which reminded me a lot of Upstairs Downstairs. (not that thats a bad thing). Basically, its about a rich family who fall on hard times and how they cope. Its also about their maid Molly and what her life is like. The author switches perspectives between several main characters and the narrator does an excellent job of doing the voices of various characters.
I found at times the characterization was a bit shallow. Also at times, the story felt like a history lesson rather than a novel. Time passes between chapters and there is little or no character development. Particularly towards the end during the war years there is a lot of focus on Jenny which was a wee bit boring. Overall, though this was an entertaining story, sure to please fans of romance and history buffs.
Enjoyable Story
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I like soft romances and period pieces (especially about anything related to the Titanic) and that's essentially what this was.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
The ending was predictable as the story was building, but sweet. If you're looking for a simple happy ending this has it.
Which character as performed by Kim Hicks was your favorite?
Molly's brothers were probably my favorite voices of Kim Hicks. The story was well read with voice changes and accents for differing characters.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Yes
Any additional comments?
My download would cut off at the end of some paragraphs - I never did find out if it was a problem with my download or if the file was corrupt.
