The first of three consecutive supermoons prepares to drop below the horizon on the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 7. Full moons on Nov. 5 (Beaver Moon) and Dec. 4 (Cold Moon). “Supermoon” informally describes a full moon that occurs when the moon is at or near perigee (its closest point to Earth), making it appear slightly larger and brighter than an average full moon.
