UK-based producer and DJ Lloyd Barwood joins the Super Progressive podcast for an in-depth conversation about one of the most exciting rises in the progressive house scene right now. Fresh off landing the number one spot on Beatport with "Nothing Like It Was" [0:11], released on Sasha's Last Night on Earth label, Lloyd opens up about the journey behind the track, how it was written specifically for a set where he handed the decks over to Sasha [1:23], and how it ultimately became one of the most-played tracks in Sasha's sets over the past six months [2:12].

Lloyd shares the inspiring reality that his number one hit was made in his spare bedroom [3:55]. He reflects on the surreal experience of going back to back with his all-time favorite DJ, Sasha, for the very first time [28:53], and describes the unforgettable moment at Balance Croatia 2026 when Hernan Cattaneo walked out of a meet and greet mid-set just to come say hello and raise his hand to the crowd [10:12].

The conversation also dives into the creative advice Sasha gave Lloyd about locking into his signature sound [26:09], the pressures of balancing a full-time day job with a rapidly accelerating music career [14:45], and the tight-knit crew of friends and family who travel with him every step of the way [32:54].

Videographer David Lovas also joins the episode to share behind-the-scenes stories about filming some of the most memorable clips of Lloyd's music being played by the world's top DJs, including a standout continuous clip of Anthony Pappa and Dave Seaman dropping the Lloyd and Medway collaboration at Balance [21:57].

Mike walks through his journey from playing Nom in Barcelona to the Super Progressive Boat Party at Balance Croatia, Loveland in Amsterdam, and closing out in Manchester with Jamie Stevens [3:48], sharing what it means to go full-time with music and why face-to-face connections in this scene are worth their weight in gold.

The conversation goes deep into Mike's distinctly groove-driven DJ style, a constant, elastic tension that layers tracks and builds dance floors without relying on long breakdowns [12:13], and how years of experience have sharpened his instincts behind the decks [10:04]. He opens up about the influences that shape his sound, from 90s hip-hop vocal samples and Dub Techno to Depeche Mode to Eric Prydz, whose technical mastery and independent spirit Mike credits as a defining inspiration [27:40].

Mike also pulls back the curtain on Tornn Records, his independent label where there are no promo campaigns, no guest lists, and no release schedules forced by outside pressure [42:35]. He explains why the music should speak for itself, why follower counts mean nothing to him when evaluating demos [37:12], and why underground music was never meant to be force-fed to an audience [38:09].
