The 1,500-acre Ciba-Geigy Corp. (McIntosh Plant) Superfund site is located about one mile Northeast of McIntosh on 1379 Ciba Road, Washington County, Alabama. Anniston Ordnance Depot, which occupies approximately 30 square miles in Anniston, Calhoun County, Alabama, was officially designated as an ammunition storage area on October 14, 1941. The Alabama Army Ammunition Plant (AAAP) covers 5,168 acres just east of the Coosa River north of Childersburg, Talladega County, Alabama. The U.S. Army terminated manufacturing operations in August 1945. The plant was in standby status until 1973, when it was declared excess property.
