I used to invest so much time, energy, and money into everything outside of myself to feel better about myself.

I'd sacrifice everything for my wife.

Pour myself out into children.

Spend money I didn't have to purchase higher status equipment for my hobbies.

Bend over backwards in service of my church and communities.

And I would take pride and place my sense of identity in something other than myself.

Leaving me feeling empty as a never enough inside

Disconnected and alone

Always needing to prove myself or have some sort of status symbol to hide behind

And robbed of the fire that wanted to burst from my heart.

Once I could see the value in myself and myself alone, the game changed.

My wife and kids and service and possessions all became simply a mirror, a reflection of who I am on the inside, rather than where I got my identity from.
