Part one: Little afternoon walk on a chilly rainy day (rain is still appreciated- moderate winter snowfall left thins rather dry -not as bad as some areas- so the several all night and/or all day rains we've had are a good thing!. Anyway, I was not very hopefully looking for Calypso orchids just outside the acreage, when I spotted some colour among last year's dead poplar leaves and this season's greening undergrowth-- this plant was unexpected, I've never seen one on the farm or nearby areas, though super easy to miss amongst the other foliage if you don't catch it in flower. That's the case here, since this is only maybe 30-50 metres from my gate!
