Communities and businesses across the United States are phasing out single-use plastics, including straws, bags, and utensils, and Plattsburgh could be next. The city is exploring a ban on plastic straws, swizzle sticks and cocktail picks. They can’t be recycled and often end up in waterways, harming wildlife.

About 800 people filled out a survey last month, and a narrow majority supported the proposed ban.
