The suspect driving a rental vehicle that struck an El Cajon police officer on the morning of December 14 was taken into custody over the weekend.
The Los Angeles Police Department's Rampart division announced the arrest of 41-year-old David Francis Cepeda Pangilinan, who had a felony warrant for the hit and run accident.
El Cajon Police Officer Nick Cirello was seriously injured when he was dragged down an El Cajon street by a rental SUV allegedly driven by the suspect and then struck by another vehicle.
"We are elated to announce that thanks to LAPD Rampart, David Pangilinan, the suspect who injured Officer Cirello, has been arrested," the LAPD tweeted Sunday. "Rampart Narcotics Enforcement Detail arrested Pangilinan and recovered a loaded gun and a large amount of drugs & money. Great job & THANK YOU."
The incident occurred when El Cajon Police Officer Cirello responded to a Volkswagen SUV report blocking the roadway in the 100 block of West Washington Avenue that was illegally parked, and inside were a sleeping man and woman, police said.
