They're baaaaack.
In what can only be described as a back to back Halloween episode since their year long absence, Sye and Shpak embark on an impossible journey of unpacking all that makes Halloween gay because it just is.
Listen in as they discuss all things queer, spooky, and Shpak's love of a particular set of fangs...
Unfortunately, they're Twilight fangs.
Sye and Shpak are back with some spooky shit. Their long-awaited (by no one) , highly-anticipated (also by no one) Halloween special is here and it's all about that emotional ass Netflix series Bly Manor. For those of you wondering why they waited so long to post this Halloween episode, the answer is these two feisty lezzies do not conform to gender stereotypes, top 40 music, nor the US Holiday calendar...
...they're also like mad lazy.
major spoilers ahead.
Swamp Grits is back from our short hiatus and here to serve up some queer nutrition! This week we are discussing a fairly recent super sexy lesbian movie (if you're into intense underwear and spit play like we are). The 2017 movie Disobedience Directed by Sebastián Lelio stars two very different and very hot Rachels. Rachel Weiss and Rachel Mcadams play two queer women from an orthodox Jewish community in London and of course, Swamp Grits is all over it. And I just have to say before we go further into this, is that this is one of those movies that I wish I could go back in time and not see in theatres with a bunch of crunchy hetero college professors.
Sye, Shpak, and their special guest Sweeps unpack the world of Camp. In a failed experiment that goes everywhere and nowhere, the three find themselves asking three very important questions:
Does 1967 Spider-Man serve life?
Are lanyards camp?
Will we ever see Sye's lost arthouse film, The Stalker?
Happy Pride month, y’all! And in the long-lived tradition of us doing this very short-term show, we gonna get gay today. As a lover of cartoons and anime, finally, FINALLY, we get to do a goddamned animated queer show! We gonna talk about the legend, the reboot, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power.
And for those of you who’ve seen it, we ain’t here for questioning my girl Catra.

Shpak and Sye suppress their overwhelming urge to gag in response to the 2016 French film Raw; the latter host does a fairly poor job. Steeped in allegory regarding female sexuality as a monstrous thing, our ladies find themselves having the most comical of moral debates because at the end of the day, "aren't we all cannibals?"
No, Shpak, we are not.

This Swamp Grits episode is about queer friendship, and who better to do it with than friend of the pod and our first featured guest, Shooka! She is a queer, she is a friend, and she is someone who has experienced the beauty and the torture of being with and without friends in the queer community. Some topics we explore: Why are queer friends amazing? Why are they sometimes hard to find? Why is queer friendship so intense? And finally, some good old-fashioned ragging on straight people.

By popular demand, this week's topic is a movie that ticks many of our boxes, and while it is pretty universally loved by queer women, ultimately it is a pretty bad movie. Do not get me wrong - I say this with all the love and compassion one can have for this beautiful attempt. I am talking of course about the 2008 classic lesbian movie, I Can't Think Straight. This movie was directed by Shamim Sarif and stars Lisa Ray and Sheetal Sheth. This week, Sye and Shpak discuss this movie with a lot of love, especially considering how much time Shpak spent rewatching YouTube montages of the kissing scenes.
After this episode, Swamp Grits will be on a short hiatus to celebrate Sye and Shpak's birthdays. We should be back in a few weeks! #ariespod

What does a desert, divorce, & deeply satisfying on screen intimacy all have in common? They’re all contained in the easily overlooked, yet vastly profound queer love story Desert Hearts. Listen as Shpak and Sye struggle to reconcile which one of them is Cay.
They were both disappointed.

Why is every queer woman's movie a #&%@ing white cis lesbian period piece? Why is it that all we ever do is watch filthy, badly lit white women in heavy fabric trashbags heavy breathing? We have spent hours watching (mostly straight actresses) untie and unbutton for like 30 minutes just to get to a truly disgusting sex scene (when you think about how little they shower and bedpans, and honestly, you get it). We hate it! We are done with it! Swamp Grits 4 Eva!
