In 1931, Theodore Marier and Herbert Kenney, members of the Class of 1934, composed “Sweep Down the Field,” a fight song they originally titled “Maroon and Gold.” It debuted on October 24 during a football game against Marquette, and nine years later a Heights editor endorsed it over “For Boston” (the school’s fight song since at least 1917), judging the latter “lifeless” and Marier and Kenney’s tune full of “swing spirit.”
