So call me crazy, but today's guest is... me! That's right, a few people have suggested along the way that, since I founded Sweet Bakery & Cakery here in Wellington, it might be cool for me to have a bit of a chat on one episode about my own journey starting a bakery business.
I started Sweet Bakery back in 2014, fresh back off the plane from my OE in London, where I worked and trained at the most amazing cupcake bakery - Crumbs & Doilies. I kicked off with a stall at the Underground Market on Wellington's Waterfront, and selling cakes online for parties and events, and after a year or so I opened a retail eat-in cake shop in Karori (where my commercial kitchen was). A few years later we opened a seond cake shop, on Cuba St in Wellington, and by that stage our team had grown to 13 people - including my husband Brad (who I roped in to a full time job at Sweet along the way!).
I put a call out for questions on Instagram (@peptalknz if you have fomo), and so while I'm usually the interview-ER, today you guys are doing the interviewing and I'll be answering your burning questions along the way.
The wonderful Sweet Bakery is still going in all it's deliciousness - you can order online for delivery in Wellington (www.sweetbakery.co.nz) or visit the cake shops in Karori and on Cuba St. Keep up with the latest flavours and treats on Instagram (@sweetbakerynz). Yum!
