Exploring alternatives
As Hightower and DeMarco look over the American landscape, they poke at the right wing hypocrites and their nonsensical notions that always seem determined to force their way as the "only" way. Not simply a diatribe with rich doses of humor, they look at the folks and organizations that have carved an alternative way that has been both profitable and successful, often around the timeless idea that people working together for a better way are going to do just fine compared to those who work against everyone for maximum short term profit. It sparks ideas and new perspectives.

Lots of good information.
Brings Hope Into Focus
This is one of the best books I've read in a long, long time. It makes hope for the future of our country real, and is a most valuable guide to actual, tangible ways to get involved with making this a better country, and have fun while you're at it. I would encourage anybody who would like to see less corporate involvement and more "people power" involvement with our food, energy sources, political system, etc., to read this book and get inspired to action! Includes actual contact information about the wonderful organizations he talks about. A goldmine of information. Hightower has hit it out of the park again!
Inspiring stories of what ordinary people can accomplish
In a world in which our economy and our lives seem to be controlled largely by the decisions of corporations, it is refreshing to hear about regular people working in a way that is healthy for our country. Hightower and Demarco shine light on those individuals and groups that give us hope that a Jeffersonian democracy can still exist in this country. The book also contains great references for those interested in populist causes.
