Publisher's Summary:
Ray Parisi is in trouble. Fired from his anchor job at ESPN after one too many public humiliations, Ray is holed up in a motel and in dire need of a break. His ex is engaged and shacking up with another guy in his old house, a Cambodian bookie wants to kill him, and he's wanted by the New York State Police. A few days before the Fourth of July, he unexpectedly receives an inheritance from his long-lost father, and it seems like all of his problems might be solved. Determined to get his life back together, Ray hatches an imaginative but highly suspect plan to win back his ex-wife, dashing from Connecticut to Las Vegas to Memphis in an attempt to secure his future before the past runs him down.
Sure to please fans of Richard Russo and Richard Ford, Swimming with Bridgeport Girls is a heartwarming and heart-wrenching tale of a charismatic gambler and his misguided quest - one based on his mistaken memory of how The Great Gatsby ends - to try to win back his ex-wife.

I LOVE this book!
Anthony Tambakisâ novel SWIMMING WITH BRIDGEPORT GIRLS will make you laugh out loud, wince with pain, root for the guy who has made mistake after mistake, and is written with words so alive you feel like you are in the midst of someone elseâs tumultuous hurricane of a life but you canât get out and you donât want to get out.
Ray and L, his wife, er, now ex, were married and in love until his gambling problem got the best of him. And his debt took a serious toll on their finances and his ability to think straight along with ousting him from his job as an anchor at ESPN. Ray will stop at nothing short to win back Lâs trust and love. She has moved on in life and love. Her new beau, Boyd, is quite a bit older and has most definitely usurped Rayâs role in every way. Living in his house, treating his dog as his own and worst of all, claimed the love of his life. Ray seethes at the very thought of Boyd and his wide variety of nicknames for him will have you rolling. Ray has made a nuisance of himself and L is on the verge of taking out a restraining order against him.
The very thing that got Ray into trouble, gambling, (and being accused of infidelity), is what he is desperate to try again, to regain his standing in an effort to convince L to come back to him. With the help of something from his past, he has the perfect solution. What transpires next involves a cast of characters that you wonât want to miss. There are several who have my heart but Renee is one of the best on the written page. She is a sweet young girl whom Ray befriends in Las Vegas and central to his story. Boy oh boy can she talk. Her colloquialisms alone are worth reading the book.
While Ray is quite the character, there is no doubt that he has a sensitive side. After all, he is relentlessly chasing the love of his life to right his wrongs and preserve their future together.
Heart, humor, and astounding writing and characters make SWIMMING WITH BRIDGEPORT GIRLS one of the very, very best. I hope that Mr. Tambakis has another book up his sleeve.
Brilliant!
Ray Parisi is all those parts within us that we often think but never say. This book will open up your world of possibility, honesty and redemption as you go on a ride with a razor-sharp wit, gut-wrenching humor and head-shaking wonder through his audacity and vulnerability.
