Throughout the centuries, the sword was the primary weapon used in hand to hand combat. The sword was always at hand and ready to use. The sword is vital to the success and survival of any soldier during those times. Without a sword, the soldier would quickly fall at the hands of their enemies. For without it, the soldier did not have any means of attack. It was his primary offensive weapon.

When we look at the Sword of the Spirit, we know that the word Spirit describes the nature of the sword. It is not a physical sword. Rather, from the context we are aware that the Sword of the Spirit is a spiritual weapon.
