Episode 022 – Sydney Smith – is a journalist-turned-web developer. She was a student at Virginia Tech during the mass shooting. CNN contacted her to be a school reporter after the event which led to a job at CNN after graduation with a degree in Mass Communication. She started work as an Editorial Assistant and worked her way up to Associate Producer.
As a kid Sydney created websites and taught herself HTML and CSS. She was inspired to transition from journalism into the world of tech after from taking coding classes at Emory University and volunteering for Black Girls Code. She attended the web immersive coding bootcamp at General Assembly. After graduation, she started working as a developer for Home Depot.
