Abstract

This scientific article explores the symbiotic relationship between corals and symbiotic algae, called zooxanthellae. Algae provide corals with up to 70% of their energy needs through photosynthesis, in exchange for a safe habitat and essential nutrients. Coral can also digest algae to extract nutrients through a process called "symbiont prunus". The article also discusses the impact of inorganic nitrate and phosphate levels on the symbiotic relationship, and how corals can adapt by using heterotrophic feeding. Finally, the author highlights the importance of understanding the symbiotic relationship for coral reef conservation.
