Have you ever been in a rut? I think sometimes we can get stuck doing things a certain way. One argument is that if it’s working, why try to change it? Another dynamic that can happen in a group is when someone presents an alternate point of view, we can become defensive of quote, “our way” and reject outside opinion.
We’re blessed to have a large, rotating staff. And while I have been guilty of quickly rejecting ideas, I do think there’s value in hearing other ideas. We should not just tolerate other perspectives but welcome them. One caveat, just to clarify, we are not talking about compromise and we’re not talking about accepting other ideas regarding doctrine or standards etc. We’re just talking about varying ideas on presentation etc.
