Since the start of the Syrian conflict in 2011, the UN estimates that more than 250,000 people have been killed, and another 4.8 million are refugees. This devastating humanitarian catastrophe is one of worst since World War II, and has resulted in the largest refugee exodus of the twenty first century. The situation is rapidly deteriorating, particularly in Eastern Aleppo. Medical facilities and classrooms continue to be bombed, while innocent civilians are caught in the crossfire of violence, and lack food, water and medical supplies. An increasing number of casualties are women and children.
