Listen Later

On today's F.A.C.T.S. podcast, host Kevin Caraballo invites guest speaker, Fatima Mabrouk, who earned her MSW from NYU Silver School of Social Work in May 2018. She served as the team lead for volunteers at the 2018 National Association of Social Workers National Conference in Washington, DC. Also, in her role as social work club president for the York College Empowering & Encouraging Together Club, has led many projects. During 2015, she was instrumental in organizing and facilitating monthly meetings with executive officers and club members. During the 2015-16 academic year, she co-organized: Annual Legislative Action Day in Albany, NY, in which she advocated for loan forgiveness, tuition reduction, extending tuition for assistance programs, and Pell Grants. Fatima Mabrouk among 12 other York’s college students had the opportunity to participate in marching peacefully on the Edmund Pettus Bridge in the State of Alabama to take part in the 50 anniversary of Bloody Sunday for the voting rights movement and the Freedom Flame Awards Gala. For her outstanding leadership and unwavering commitment to service, Fatima Mabrouk was awarded the 2nd Annual CUNY Women’s Centers Council In Service to Women Award. Her passion for civil rights and social justice issues has provided her with opportunities towards her research on the intersections of racial identity and microaggressions in social work practice. Fatima is now a researcher assistant at Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College studying families involved in child welfare and child mental health services and Columbia’s SSW Associate.
