The T-72 was once considered the most feared Former Soviet tank on the battlefield.  With a larger main gun than most of their Western adversaries and with production numbers far above the best of the west, it could quickly equip large tank divisions.  In their baptism of fire, the T-72 handled very well in combat, further gaining a reputation for toughness, durability, and the ability to take out what the West was bringing to the fight.
