台风-塔巴

Listen Later

Erinome: Hello dear friends! Welcome to "Weather Watch" podcast. I'm Erinome, and with me today is Enceladus. How are you doing, Enceladus?

Enceladus: Hi Erinome! I'm okay, but I heard there was a big typhoon in southern China recently. You know that?

Erinome: Oh right! We’re going to talk about Typhoon Tabah today. It was the 16th typhoon of this year. Do you know when and where it landed?

Enceladus: Um… I think it was in Guangdong? But I’m not sure about the details.

Erinome: Let me tell you! Typhoon Tabah landed at 8:50 AM on September 8th, in Taishan City, Guangdong Province. Its strength was strong tropical storm level—11th grade, with winds up to 30 meters per second!

Enceladus: Wow, 30 meters per second? That’s like a very fast car! Did it cause a lot of rain and wind?

Erinome: Oh yes! Many places in Guangdong had heavy rainstorms. For example, in Zhongshan City, the average rainfall was 91.6 millimeters, and the biggest was 136.5 millimeters in Xiqu District. That’s so much rain!

Enceladus: Oh no! What about the wind? Was it strong too?

Erinome: Absolutely. Most areas had 7-9 grade gusts, and some places even 10 grade. In Zhuhai, Wanshan Island had the strongest gust—12 grade, 34.4 meters per second! Can you imagine that?

Enceladus: That sounds scary! Did it only affect Guangdong?

Erinome: No, after landing, it moved into Guangxi and will go to Yunnan later. So the rain won’t stop quickly. In fact, in western Guangdong and Guangxi, there might be more heavy rain—even super heavy rain in some areas.

Enceladus: Oh, so people there need to be careful. What about emergency responses? Did the government do something?

Erinome: Yes! In Zhongshan, the wind emergency response was lowered to Level IV at 3:30 PM on September 8th, but the flood (rainstorm) Level IV response is still active. And in Zhuhai, yellow rainstorm warnings and blue typhoon warnings are still on.

Enceladus: Wait, if the typhoon has left, why are the warnings still there?

Erinome: Good question! Because when a typhoon lands, it doesn’t mean the impact ends. Tabah has a complete structure, so its spiral rain bands keep bringing rain and wind. So people can’t relax yet!

Enceladus: Oh right, that makes sense. What tips did the news give for people?

Erinome: Lots! Like, tomorrow there will still be rain, so people should avoid low-lying areas, don’t park cars in places that might flood. Also, because the soil is very wet from continuous rain, they need to watch out for landslides and mudslides.

Enceladus: Oh, stay away from hills and rivers then. What about driving?

Erinome: The news said "slow down, keep distance, turn on lights" for driving in rain. And if there’s an accident on the highway: "move the car aside, people leave, call police immediately."

Enceladus: Smart tips! Did the typhoon bring any good things? Like, maybe cooling down the hot weather?

Erinome: Haha, yes! Southern China was very hot before. For example, Zhejiang had record high temperatures—Hangzhou reached 39.4 degrees on September 8th! But after Tabah, the high temperature center there will cool down a bit.

Enceladus: Oh, that’s a relief! But wait, will the heat come back?

Erinome: Um… maybe. The news said after September 11th, the subtropical high might move west again, so southern China could have high temperatures again—around 35-37 degrees. But it won’t be as bad as before, maybe?

Enceladus: Oh no, not again! When will the hot weather really end?

Erinome: Well, there’s hope! Around September 16th, a big cold air might come from Siberia, like a "cold wave". If it moves south, the summer heat might end around September 20th. Fingers crossed!

Enceladus: That would be great! So, to sum up: Typhoon Tabah landed in Guangdong, brought heavy rain and strong winds, affected Guangxi and Yunnan, people need to stay safe from floods and landslides, and it might cool down the heat but only for a short time.

Erinome: Exactly! And remember, even if the typhoon has moved, always check the latest weather warnings. Safety first!

Enceladus: Right! Okay, I think that’s all for today. Thanks for sharing, Erinome!

Erinome: You’re welcome! Hope everyone stays dry and safe. See you next time!

Enceladus: Bye, everyone!
