Morning markets are the best places to experience Taiwan’s vibrant food culture. From meat and vegetables to seafood, these ingredients represent the flavours of Taiwan. And, people there usually speak Tâi-gí. We’ll continue learning some useful words to help you go shopping in a Taiwanese market. This week, let’s focus on fruits.

●Words to Know:

1. 果子 kué-tsí / 水果 tsuí-kó (n.) fruit

2. 葡萄 phû-tô (n.) grape

3. 蓮霧 lián-bū (n.) wax apple

4. 柿仔 khī-á (n.) persimmon

5. thoo-má-tooh (n.) tomato

 

●Idiom  of the week:

西瓜倚大爿。

Si-kue uá tuā pîng.

(Lean toward the bigger side of the watermelon.)
