Feast Meets West

Taiwanese Turkey Rice

Listen Later

Did you know that Taiwanese turkeys are more than twice the size of their American counterparts? One of the reason is so that you can get 400 hundred servings of the iconic local dish – turkey rice – from one bird! In today's Thanksgiving weekend edition of Feast Meets West, we'll sample this street food favorite, and learning about its surprising origins.

Today’s menu: In our first course, we introduce you to food and culture writer Clarissa Wei, who recently dove into the history of Taiwanese Turkey Rice for the November issue of Epicurious. In our second course, Clarissa gives us a behind-the-scenes look at her quest to create a Turkey Rice recipe that’s perfect for a paired-down thanksgiving or for using up leftover turkey! And in our third and final course, we’ll be back here in the studio to sample some turkey rice!
