It's a world-wide billion dollar industry with a built in devoted audience, recognisable characters and visuals that should be right at home on the big screen... but despite trying and trying and trying again, it seems impossible to make a good movie based on a computer game.
From moustachioed plumbers to hooded assassins to street fighters to raiders of tombs (charted and un), the response of filmgoers to most if not all film adaptations of best selling video games ranges from 'meh' to 'my God what a mess!'
