As the sun went down on the mountainside where Jesus did the miracle of the feeding of the 5000, Jesus sent the disciples on ahead to the next town while he stayed behind to pray; they were in a boat, and he was on the mountain. Soon the disciples found themselves in the dark, rowing against a stiff wind. Jesus surprised them by walking out to them on the water - and their reaction prompted an important lesson!
This summer most of the Gospel lessons are in the Gospel according to Saint Mark. These readings talk about Jesus’ teachings, His miracles, and His action-packed ministry. But each of the readings also has a “takeaway” from Jesus Himself! We’re focusing on these “red-letter” verses this summer. Here’s this week’s, from Mark chapter 6, verse 50: Jesus told His disciples “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
