Susan Daffron talks to Michele Rinaldi from the Pet Animal Welfare Society or PAWS in Norwalk, Connecticut about a Jack Russell terrier mix named Delia. She is a. very sweet and affectionate little dog who is approximately 4 years old and weighs about 15 pounds. Delia loves people and wants to say hello to everyone that she sees. In the short time she has been at PAWS, she has become a staff favorite because she is so playful and loving.



True to her JR heritage, Delia does have a lot of energy and loves to run around the yard, play fetch and run the agility course at PAWS. Michele says she is quite an athlete and can run very fast and jump quite high. Once she's done playing, Delia also likes to just cuddle up and relax in a lap. She's happy to provide lots of kisses in exchange for some belly rubs. If you're looking for a small, energetic dog, you won't find a sweeter one than Delia!

There are another 3.4 million cats as well.  While many of us in the animal welfare space and beyond are aware of the enormity of those numbers, it takes a special person to decide to do something to combat the issue.  And that’s where Marla Stahl enters the frame.  She’s an author and animal advocate who’s dedicated herself to combating animal abuse and homelessness in the United States in a very unique way.  Today we’ll be talking with Marla to share her mission, and learn more about her work and how it’s making a difference in the lives of thousands of animals and people.

It began in Philadelphia in 1869. And it began with women – thirty of them to be exact, who formally joined forces on April 14, 1869 to establish Women’s Animal Center. Outraged by the cruel manner in which strays on Philadelphia streets were captured and killed, they successfully petitioned City Council to take over the municipal pound as their initial order of business, repurposing it as the first facility in the U.S. for sheltering and rehoming animals.
