Take Ten – 19 June

Listen Later

Are we seeing one of the worst surges in unemployment ever recorded in Australia? This week the ABS has noted the largest monthly increase in unemployment in almost 30 years, from 6.2% in April to 7.1% in May.
Listen to this week’s episode where our Chief Economist, Dr Matthew Peter, dissects what this all means, as the forecasts for unemployment varied between economists, and how the signs for recovery are looking promising as recent weeks employment has been gradually climbing. Can we expect a flip from net monthly job losses in May to monthly job growth in June?
We also hear Dr Peter speak to:
- Whether the RBA should be taking other central banks policies seriously
- What investors should be thinking about for the week ahead
