Was our optimism short placed? With a surge of COVID-19 cases being reported across the world, the market’s refocus on the pandemic infection rates has swamped any good news coming out of the economic data. Tune in to today’s QPod where our Chief Economist Dr Matthew Peter talks about how forward indicators of the economy are rolling back any hopes of a V-shaped economic recovery.
He also talks to:
- Why indexes, such as the Purchasing Managers Indexes, have increased since their April lows but are still sending signals that most businesses are still pessimistic about the outlook
- The latest IMF global economic forecasts in which they downgraded from their last quarter forecasts in April
- The IMF also included a downside risk scenario and its Global Financial Stability Update highlighting a disconnect between markets and the real economy and the risk of a correction in risk asset prices
