The word this week is JOY.
It took me forty years to find the joy of the Lord and now I can't stop talking about it.
This one's just me, and it's a testimony, not a lesson. Joy is not happy; happy is about what's happening, and it leaves when the happening stops. Joy is three things going wrong in your life at the same time and you are genuinely, legitimately unbothered.
I'll tell you about the shower thing: how I've started just shouting "THE LORD IS MY REFUGE" at seven in the morning and I don't even know where it came from.
And I'll answer what I've been chewing on all week: why did it take FORTY YEARS? Here's where I landed; think the hard times were so that when I finally got here, it would be undeniable. If joy had come easy I'd have taken the credit for it. It came in a season that hadn't earned it, so there's nobody to hand it to but God.
Then the six things that actually got me here: I stopped trying to control everything. I stopped working in my own strength. I got patient and let God work. I pray. I read my Bible. And I let the Holy Spirit lead.
If you're still in a long night; you're not behind. Morning always comes.
