Take-Two Interactive Software has sold its independent games-focused publishing label, Private Division, to an undisclosed buyer. This decision is part of Take-Two's strategy to focus on larger projects and core businesses. The sale includes substantially all of Private Division's existing and unreleased titles, such as the upcoming game *Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game* by Wētā Workshop and a new project with Game Freak known as *Project Bloom*. However, Take-Two will continue to support Moon Studios' action RPG *No Rest for the Wicked*, which is currently in Early Access.
Private Division, established in 2017, was aimed at making games from top independent developers critically and commercially successful on a global scale. Despite some successes like *The Outer Worlds*, the label faced challenges, including the notable flop of *Kerbal Space Program 2*. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick emphasized that the issue was not the flops but rather that even the hits were not big enough compared to the company's core intellectual properties at 2K and Rockstar.
As part of this restructuring, Take-Two also confirmed the closure of studios Roll7 and Intercept Games, which were previously reported but initially denied by Zelnick. The sale of Private Division may help avoid further layoffs and allow the new owner to better support the team.
The buyer of Private Division is expected to be disclosed 'relatively soon' according to Take-Two's CEO
