The first episode of the Take Your Apprenticeship podcast features a chat with Jenna Rich (
[email protected]) from City College Norwich about some common misconceptions that exist about apprenticeships.
Our Higher Education Champion Naomi Miller interviewed Jenna remotely during June 2020 and the ten ‘myths’ that she put to her were:
1. Higher and Degree Apprenticeships are a way to work and get a qualification.
2. All apprenticeships are the same level.
3. Applying for an apprenticeship is like applying for university.
4. Apprenticeships are for people who didn’t do well at school.
5. Is it a real job or will I just be making coffees?
6. If I am doing an apprenticeship then I won’t be paid a decent wage.
7. I won’t be classed as a university student if I do a higher level apprenticeship.
8. Higher and Degree apprenticeships are for those over 18.
9. As long as I get good grades then I won’t need to worry about work experience.
10. Getting an apprenticeship means that I can stay close to home.
