• A major contributor to the pushback against organized religion is the "persecutor" attitude. We see this attitude play out when Christians make aggressive and definitive claims, pushing back when culture opposes their firm moral convictions.

1. Where this attitude comes from is something that has been slowly taking root in Christianity since 325 AD, when Constantine declared Christianity as the religion of Rome (the mega power controlling government of Europe and the Middle East.
2. Over time, as the Church grew further away from being a "persecuted people" they started to reach for more authority over the throne and the leading authority.
3. Little by little, we stepped away from being a persecuted people and stepped into being the "top dog," the persecutors.

• In America, we have multiple layers which influence a subconscious desire to value the persecuted underdog.
• Americans = revolutionary pilgrims who were persecuted by the British for over-taxation, one these reasons were protestants departure from the catholic church in search of freedom to worship. 
• Christians = A small group of Jews who were persecuted by Jews for believing Jesus of Nazareth was the Messiah of prophecy and persecuted by the Romans out of fear due to converting others through their selfless and humble servitude.
• Jews = Originally called Hebrews who were the descendants of Abraham, who were enslaved by the Egyptians for 400 years and then liberated by the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob
