How do you see the state of the industry digital Health right now?
It moves very slowly, we've been ready to see a roll out for well over a decade and we have seen some progress obviously the pandemic helped user in Telehealth which is one component but there's so much more especially now that we have the tools of AI to help bring these into the real practice.
There's been some progress we still don't have the regard for sensors that I would hope we would broad use of sensors we're still not liberating from keyboard for clinicians.
We've made very little progress towards hospital at home which should be attainable, there's many things we can do that we haven't done yet, I would still say we're in the first inning of the digital Health progress and we're still largely an analog entity unfortunately.
I do agree with you everything moves really slow unfortunately and we are at the very beginning of this emerging industry.
I think it's the most exciting time in medicine and particularly in digital medicine mainly because of deep neural networks
The Sweet Spot for AI we're seeing some extraordinary things that are going to change the face of medicine since as you know we rely on scans and images in medicine to a large degree and this will help accuracy but also will provide new information that previously was unattainable and that I think is is really efficient and exciting brilliant
We need to use Ai and digital to restore the patient doctor relationship that premise to me is most important as a physician now. For over three decades and as a patient all of us our patients will be patients we've seen marked erosion of that relationship and we need to get it back and the way we get it back the biggest step is the gift of time. The gift of time which is means that we are have more time with patients to listen to hear their stories and concerns to do a careful exam which should include digital tools.
I didn't even mention you know smartphone ultrasound which to me is should be part of every physical exam particularly for me it's the smartphone Echo but um also the the rest restoration of trust and presence and empathy all these things have taken a hit in decades since I first became a physician
