Publisher's Summary:
Although enormously attractive as sheer entertainment, Dervish tales were never presented merely on the level of a fable, legend, or folklore.
They stand comparison in wit, construction, and piquancy with the finest stories of any culture, yet their true function as Sufi teaching stories is so little-known in the modern world, that no technical or popular terms exist to describe them.
The material in Tales of the Dervishes is the result of a thousand years of development, during which Dervish masters used these and other teaching stories to instruct their disciples. The tales are held to convey powers of increasing perception unknown to the ordinary man.

Images of the Real and the Unreal - plus Notes
The Preface tells you of the use of stories by Sufis and the general public. There are tales with great titles like The Cure Of Human Blood, The Man Whose Time Was Wrong, Wisdom For Sale. There are famous stories, such as The Blind Ones and the Matter of the Elephant, The Ancient Coffer of Nuri Bey, Strike on this Spot and The Kingâs Son. It all comes down the electronic pipeline (plus tax) to browse, to read, or just to have a copy. Images of the real and the unreal (plus Notes). Very entertaining.
Stories with great insight.
Stories with great insight into human behavior. Shah spent 30 years traveling the East to collect oral "Teaching Stories" that transmitted both common sense and wisdom.
Transformative stories
This classic collection of teaching stories should be on everyone's bookshelf. It has no peer. It may be read strictly for entertainment or ever deeper transformative experiences. The stories will fly you to the mystical wildernesses where you'll get lost only to find a more authentic self.
Three Stars
