The crisis in Afghanistan is getting worse with thousands of people trying to access the limited options available to leave the country with their families. Many have chosen to risk everything and stay back in their home country in the hope that things will not be as bad as it’s being predicted.
The Taliban has assured its citizens that there will be no witch hunt for protestors, dissenters or any people who have acted against the Taliban in the past. Those who wish to stay back will need to adhere to the law of the land which will be based on the Islamic Sharia law. People staying back is what would be the best for Afghanistan as they look to rebuild the country from the ground up and skilled manpower like doctors and engineers will be crucial.
The US troops are said to be sticking to their deadline of August 31st to pull out of the country. This decision has lead to the fall of the government, desertion of the army and the takeover by the Taliban who were kept at bay for almost 20 years. US President Joe Biden has made it very clear that there will be no extension in this date as the war in Afghanistan has been going on for far too long.
One of the highlights of this takeover was that there was very little bloodshed, mass murders, rapes or rioting when compared to other parts of the world. There is the argument that these incidents are going unreported due to the limited number of independent journalists left in the country to report on these issues.
Some experts believe that this was achieved through a very meticulous monitoring and location-based mapping down by the Taliban in every city in Afghanistan. This ensured that the supporters of the regime were duly spared the ordeal while the non-supporters were publicly allowed to escape the country or conform to its new rules.
Our sources within the top rungs of the Taliban tell us that they had developed a whole new way of taking the count of the population or the census. This was important for the think tanks in the organisation to formulate policies that would essentially harass the non-believers while keeping everyone else safe. This census is so intricate that it not only breaks down the population by geography but also by the various subsects of the Islamic faith. Another key demographic that this census provided was the preferred country that the Afghani citizen would prefer to escape to.
The way this whole exercise was conducted remains a secret and a large chunk of the Afghan population has only this to thank for their safe passage into a country of their choice. This also helped in identifying government sympathisers, professionals and protestors who were detained by the Taliban. They were permitted to continue in the country provided that they agreed to comply with the teachings of the Quran and strict compliance to the Sharia law. Actors, artists and musicians were asked to change their profession or leave the country.
