Just last week we brought you an update on the Life Esidimeni tragedy, revealing that the National Prosecuting Authority wants to charge two officials who oversaw the disaster, in which 144 mental healthcare patients died. Now, there’s worry that it may happen all over again. The Talisman Foundation in southern Johannesburg, where a large group of mental health patients is being looked after, says it has to vacate the building from which it’s been operating for decades. Now, there’s real concern that the Gauteng Health Department could hurriedly move the patients to facilities which haven’t been properly vetted. The DA’s Jack Bloom is raising the alarm.
