Greeting Folks!
As Plato said to Socrates of ancient Greece: “The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.”
Extraordinary, I know! Socrates made this declaration between 469-399 B.C. Even then, Greeks were pulling their hair and crowned fretting scream, “These Damned Kids, Today!”
In today’s episode, my special guest Ms. Natasha and I will unpack Plato’s philosophy in the current context. We both agree that many of these ancient yet relevant occurrences are hitting a fever pitch particularly in the homes and schools of underserved communities of color.
This episode introduces the following theme:
1. Tribalism2. Internal/External Identity 3. Social Dependent verse Independent Thinking
Side note: The abovementioned themes were more inferred by our conversation instead of deliberately referencing the term and unpacking the details according. This is basically a casual conversation between friends that includes some good teachable points. Enjoy!
